I am a lead training dispatcher for my agency. We are a 911 center that dispatches for 29 different agecies across 3 counties in Oregon. I have been dispatching for almost 10 years now and have recently becaome the Union President. When I started this course, I had just been promoted at work and recently elected as President. I really just wanted to be a better leader for my people, both the trainers under me and my Union members. This course really opened my eyes to the possibility of influencing not only my people, but the user agencies and the public that we serve. There is no easy way to fund all the projects, positions and services we offer. But I look at this information and think that if we had better support from the public and our user agencies, then there might be a way to encourage better give and take between the sides. Our agency struggles with empoyee satifaction and retention, like a lot of centers. I am trying to be a better leader to change the "this is how we have always done it" struggl and bring our agency into a more positive work environment for my people. If we all felt we had a better relationship with those we serve, I think it would go a long way This course has opened my eyes on how I can start to change our lives in dispatch. Thnak you so much! I enjoyed the course. I thought it balanced trends with success strategies in a clear and concise way. The discussion on the generational difference and the communication breakdowns were informative and helpful in understanding some of the barriers to success in developing a cohesive team. The only thing I believe that could have been better / shorter was the social media piece. While there was some great information and tips, I felt it was a bit long and hard to continue to focus on it. Overall, the training was informative and provides insight.
